Since I am
an applied mathematics major with a concentration in operations research, I
have had the opportunity to take several courses in the IEOR department. Because
I grew an interest in this academic discipline, I thought it would be
interesting to take more classes involving IEOR. Although this particular course is mainly designed
for students with engineering backgrounds, I think it would be beneficial for
me to learn more about technology issues and the smartphone patent war. I look
forward to learning more about this war, and also about the major shift
from people using computers to using smartphones.
I'm interested to see the perspective that an applied math major such as yourself brings to this class, especially since you're coming into this from an academic perspective rather than an entrepreneurial one. I look forward to seeing you in class!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very interesting academic background--looking forward to hearing your insights on the patent war in class. I think that an Applied Math major will have a unique insight compared to the slew of engineering and business students enrolled in this class.
ReplyDeleteI feel like applied math majors often seek job opportunities within a very broad scope of technology companies. Therefore, having the foundation of knowledge about technology patents that this class provides will be extremely useful. The mobile emphasis will be particularly important when considering the growing trend towards mobile marketplaces. Additionally, your formulaic math skills will be a springboard for understanding the intricacies involved in patenting products.
